How does a finder know it's my phone?

On other expensive phones I've had (my Treos, in particular), there's been a very obvious way for people to find out whose phone it is, such as owner information on the lock screen, in case I lose it.

Is there anything at all like this for the N900?

Has anyone figured out how to hack information onto the lock screen?

You could have a contact on your home screen as 'you'...call it "My contact card" or even "Me" or something similar...an honest finder would surely see that and press it....
I've found a phone or two in the past and just looked up parents or mum/dad in contacts....did the trick :-)

Cant you just edit the lock screens like they do for the themes and put whatever you want on it

The Contacts menu has a "My information" thing for that info. Not sure how discoverable that would be to someone who hasn't used Maemo, though.

Now there's an idea for an app. For the lock screen (the one where you type in a PIN to unlock the device), put a "reward if found" sign with some contact details.

It would then say "click to unlock" and proceed to the virtual number pad to allow you to enter the pin.

Brilliant....sounds like a brainstorm....:D

Currently it's even still in Bugzilla: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=793 . I would have also expected it in Brainstorm, actually.

You can make a picture with your details in photoshop or some other program and put it as a backgroung for the lock screen.

Do we know how an app would lock the phone but present its own lock screen? If someone can point me to that, I might even try it myself.

That's fantastic; how do you change the background for the locking screen? I can't find anything for that.

The other problem is that the slider on the right-hand side of the phone bypasses that entirely; it either opens the phone up or brings up the unlock password screen (which covers almost everything, so changing the background wouldn't help).

Does the app (optionally) phone home, notifying you of its whereabout while it's being run to show the finder your reward offer?
