wow!

N770 running latest 2006 OS from MMC

Go http://tversity.com/home, download TVersity, installed in a laptop, started as a UPnP server; installed media streamer (probably already in your appl manager folder), started media streamer, it immediately recognized TVersity on my home network! WoW! no setting to monkey with. It took me less than 5 min to set it up and it already talking to each other. I am impressed. Ironically it took me half an hour to figure out how to use these two pieces of software, I am listening to my favorite tune 10cc "I'm not in love" while I am posting this. I am excited. I can listen to all my home music collection while I am at work! I dont even have to put my music on my N770!
Wow!

a proud owner of N770 for a week. itT rocks!

Re: wow!

I am a totally network ................. ignorant. Would some of you senior members or network guru point me to a direction or walk me thru, how to set up so that I could see my home network at my office with some sort of password? My experience is limited to setting up a home network running window$ XP. I knew router port setting is very painful and has not learned it yet.

Thanks in advance, heading to work now

Re: wow!

I would like to see more feature on the player, so I also installed canola. My boy, what an install, takes quite awhile to finish. The canola has prettier interface and probably more sophisticated and flexiblity. Again, just a plain install, follow with the canola config, just type in a username and password, and watched the youtube manual part 1+2, and fire up the canola, it detected the TVersity without a glitch. Both media streamer and canola does not come with an equalizer, quite disappointing. anyway, still looking forward to how to config either one so that I can play my media over inet. Any guru out there? TIA

Re: wow!

To see your own server via inet, I did it, use the command,
------
(desktop) Http://ip address:41952/flashlib/

(Nokia N770) Http://ip address:41952/lib/
------
Cool!

Step by step:

see above post, install TVersity on any desktop/laptop (I use an old one that even a 7 yr old kid would not touch!), choose all defaults. start TVersity, add share file to library. Be careful, one has to wait till the flashing circle on the right hand corner finished flashing before browsing. Flashing circle means it is doing its 'business' ;) (indexing database?), if browse at this moment, the library corrupted and needs to be rebuild (a software bug and they are working on it). If you do not know how to repair the corrupted library or to delete a library, like me, I uninstall TVersity and start over again. For a 25G music, the initial catalogue may take more than 15 minute. Again, do not interrupt.

Now you are done with the server, at least for the starter.

On your N770, type http://192.168.#.#:41952/lib/
replace 192.168.#.# with your real ip address
presto, you logged into your own server, wherever you are, as long as there is inet.

If you want to try on a desktop first, type
http://192.168.#.#:41952/flashlib/
replace 192.168.#.# with your real ip address
bingo, you logged into your server now, wherever you are as long as there is inet. And of course, I notice on the desktop, there is very little wait on refreshing the server list when compare to the N770.

One little caveat, music has to stop and then 'buffering' before able to pick another song. It is quite annoying. I wonder, in future development, or maybe there is such feature already, music should continue while one browsing the library and getting ready to pick the 2nd song. For the time being, I AM HAPPY. Pls, post your experience, tips, and use of this UPnP server/media streamer/canola system, tips and uses are much more easy to 'digest' then boring user manual.

Now playing Styx: Babe I love you

The above works ONLY in your home network. To access over the web when away from your home network, you need this, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...5578#post75578

enjoy, almost 2 months later.............:p

You should look at Orb Networks--"access your media from anywhere" i.e. anywhere you have web access. I believe I've seen one other program of this nature but can't remember where atm.

For anyone just interested in music, a very nice app is Twonky MusicServer--around 700kb and uses only 3Mb on your PC when running. As small a music Upnp as I've seen, and nice looking. You might have to search hard for it as Twonky Vision no longer makes this exceptional (free) sw available.

I will look. I also have to remember that my internet connection is slow. 1MBPS. I have a mail and ww server running. Oh well

Re: wow!

TVersity is really cool! I installed it on my pc and followed bun's step-by-step and got it to work on my 770 in no time.

I can also access those media files on my pc anywhere there's a web connection. Just enable port 41952 on the router.

TVersity is too buggy when you have a very large database like I have. Sometimes it completely lockes up. Tried it on different pc's with the same result.

Like the concept tho.

My database is 25G music + video, total files over 7000. I would not call this a small database. I do not know the upper limit of TVersity, but for the time being, it works for me. When I first installed it, I was being impatient, and I browsed the server while they are building the database index. As a result, it works most of the time (and flag an error message), but NOT all the time. Occasional, it locked up as you observed and required a reboot. However, as I mentioned in my earlier post, I unstalled the TVersity and RE-installed it, basically it rebuilt the index (took more than 35min!) and I did not even use the computer when it was indexing......, and it has NOT lock-up or hichup ever since.

So far I have been accessing my media files in tvsersity just using the browser. I like to use Media Streamer on my 770, but it does not seem to find tvsersity as the media server. Bun, what do I have to do so that Media Streamer can pick up TVersity? Thanks.

No I wouldn't call that a small db either. But as I have been filling my db for years now, it's a tad larger. Music (mp3) only is 100 Gb, complete with video it would exceed 1 Tb. Not small either. ;) I only added music to the TVersity db, didn't get round to try video.
I use a Pinnacle Showcenter (hardware decoder with server side software db). It is far from perfect, but stable. I like it alot.

Sorry, did not mean to ignore you, but I need a little more info in order to help. I just installed the TVersity and did not make any adjustment and the 770 just picked it up. Yesterday, I found out a window media player 11 on a Vista box just picked up TVersity just like that (Sorry, folks, not win XP). Absolutely no adjustment. Of course, now I started to fine tune TVersity with bitrate/quality etc, but regarding to pick up TVerstiy, I really did not do anything in particular. Post back with your sysinfo and we will make it work. How about that?;)

Hah, I'm amazed. I've only had my 770 for about 48 hours now, and everything i've ran across that people say is 'easy', isn't .... but not in this case, I'm streaming like a madman on it, bloody brilliant.

Thanks for the walkthrough

*let me rephrase that, things are easy on the 770, just seem a bit overwhelming at first when you don't know what you're doing :)

You are very welcome. My next project will be to install VPN/rdesktop so that I can use the native player to play media files stored on server. I will cook up another step by step after I make it, or, if you or anybody willing to take up the job and walk me thru?

Stream TV signal...........anybody?

I was wondering if you've had the same problem I've had with Mediatomb. It stops playing at the end of every song (with only 20 or so seconds left). Do you know how to correct this?

I'm using 10.0 on a Debian Etch machine.

I have a different problem, or the same problem?! The last 1 second of the stream video streamed very fast, like a fastforward cartoon, audio does not do that. It happened on 50% of the streamed video and I have NOT figured out a patern yet. And I am not sure these two problems are the same or different. No solution yet, sorry.

Please post a little bit more info and see where is the problem. For example, were you able to add shared folders/files to your library? If you do, you should be able to see the shared folders/files when click library......

Re: wow!

If you browse the library while the library is indexing, i.e. a moving circle, you may have damaged the index and cause the unable to share/connect problem. This is a known bug that TVersity is currently working on. The way I fix it, uninstall the whole thing, and reinstall, and this time, dont touch anything till the moving circle stopped.

Post back if question, hope this works.:o

BTW, if you call somebody sir, which I rightfully deserved:rolleyes: , dont you supposed to end your request with something like your honor, your highness etc:p How come I dont see that?

It's my understanding that Twonky is a media server that will install on Linux NAS and Linux x86 PC's in addition to Windows. (Unfortunately its not free you have to pay a small fee)
www.twonkyvision.de

I use Twonky occasionally via my XP PC as it serves my mp3 embedded Album Art to Media Streamer when playing audio tracks. I use Media Streamer to either play tracks directly on my Internet Tablet or control playback via my Philips Sl300i UPnP device connected to my Hi-Fi. (TVersity Release 0.9.10.7 is currently unable to serve the Album Art)

Either I have not optimized the settings or there is a tremendous amount of router overhead, the streaming of video over inet is not watchable. With TVersity, I am able to stream music over the web and has absolutely no difficulty, works very well. Video streaming is only limited to inside my own home network, over localhost: port. when streams over inet: port, it stutters so much, it is not watchable. I do not understand why there is so much big difference in streaming within my home network, compare to stream over internet, some built in security issue? A lot of posts saying streaming video successfully, I have severe doubt. Yup right, I stream video too, 1 frame per minute, ..., I have since give up streaming video. I think it either requiring tremendous amount of bandwidth or router tweaking thats way beyond a casual user.
