App based SMS ( not WhatsApp or Ebuddy something like JaxtrSMS )
 

Hi All,

Do we have any application which sends SMS directly to mobile inbox? This should enable to other end point to not have to install any app like whatsapp, so I can then truly send SMS to any mobile in the world for little or no cost.

Saw an interesting application JaxtrSMS for Symbian, unfortunately it does not support maemo or meego at this time.

Yeah, check out www2sms and web2sms. They use the web to send sms and it is stored in our conversations, and they also get it as simple sms.

The difference with JaxtrSMS is that it claims to be able to send sms to all numbers worldwide free of cost, while www2sms and web2sms has limitations.

I was looking for an App based solution rather than browser based one!
JaxtrSMS resides in your device and you can launch the app anytime send SMS:) rather than open a browser and send the SMS.

Opps, I did not mention that I am using the Nokia N9
These are not yet supported it appears on N9.

Apparently you need an account in one of the service providers listed in the www2sms and web2sms apps, you will probably have to register for those services. Just tap on account on the top bar and you will see many accounts listed.

I am still hoping jaxtrsms will in future support MeeGo and Maemo. SMS on that is absolutely free and no account setup is required:D

does google voice only work in usa?

btw web2sms is in development for n9, i dont need this app since skype on n9 has sms feature! n900 does not have sms skype.

i wonder why jaxtrsms is free to send sms internationally.

i installed web2sms and created an account in voicecheap. but when i try to send the msg it says i hav no credit and i hav to buy it. so its not free? like jaxtr sms? can u tell me how to send free sms over internet connection?

For web2sms and www2sms, we can chose the account/website. Each websites have their own systems. For example, I can send free sms within India and middleEast using www2sms and 160by2. It all depends on what the site is offering.
The good thing is that web2ms and www2sms follow a plugin method to add services and hence if Jaxtr releases an API in the future, it will be easy to add it to the app.

i am from bangladesh and i want to send free sms in bangladesh for free. what should i use.and how.plzzz help.

I suggest that you download the two apps (web2sms and www2sms) and look into the in-app account/service provider list and Google it to check if any of them supports sending free SMS in Bangladesh.

How do you send free SMS to mobile number from Skype? Would you not have to have credit in your account?
I tried doing it trough contact list but the only option I get is to call:confused:

ok so I have installed www2sms but when I go to account set up 160by2 is not listed??
the version of www2sms that I have installed is 1.3.0
could u briefly tell me what cud be the reason as to why 160by2 is not listed?

Click on the menu (top) and there is an option to update it. That will pull in the 160by2 info.

firstly thanx for the reply...
I did try what u told me to bt but I get an error "failed to import GPG signature"
as u can see m not yet very well versed with the terminology so it wud be very helpful if u could tell me why is this error appearing?
