Very bad quality with the camera

I'm having issues with the camera. I see on the "best picture you've taken" thread some amazing shots (relatively speaking, of course - nobody's expecting DSLR results from a phone), but my N900 could never approach that quality. The pictures I take with the back camera are washed-out, grainy and just plain ugly even when the flash is not used; when it is used the camera is barely good enough to take pics of things I want to remember (so I don't have to scribble them in the notes). Night-time pictures of people, in particular, are absolutely terrible - and yes, I know small lenses and LED "flashes" don't ever produce excellent results, but I see plenty from other phones that are at least somewhat passable. My N900 just takes pictures of zombies.

Do I have a bad camera?

Maybe sounds stupid, but happend to me a time ago: from one day to another i had the feeling, all pics are of really bad qualitiy... lasted 2 weeks until i realized, i had set it to night-mode and forgotten to set it back to automatic... maybe you got a wrong setting anywhere.

An also important: a clean lense :)

Hard to help without seeing example picture, took during day in good light conditions, and auto settings.

That stripes are very strange, indeed.

Re: Very bad quality with the camera

At night I basically just the iso to lowest and try to hold very, very still. lol.

Estel 2012-11-03 06:36

Re: Very bad quality with the camera

But stripes aren't about ISO - high ISO would result in "dust" (btw, lowest ISO at night isn't best idea, too).

Of course, for correct nighttime photos, tripod is a must - but still, those stripes looks rather like damage of camera module. Same results apply, if using fCam?

Re: Very bad quality with the camera

I wasn't talking about the stripes, they're odd. I just meant in general, that's what I tend to end up having to do to get "decent" pictures at night.

Re: Very bad quality with the camera

Stripes are always horisontal at level of some kind of light source on photo...look at modem's led indicators.

This is using night mode.

And this is using Fcam.

I dont know what to do...maybe try to find new camera lens.

i'm not having these blue lines but when my N900 uses its flash at night pictures are bit bluish at the corners and i think it's because of the blue back of lens protector.

Just have to wait 2~4 weeks for it to get there from China.

Ok, I have changed camera module with n79 one, but now I get "operation failed" message. What could be a problem? I also tried with my old module but same thing again, "operation failed".

Correct, this issue had even a huge thread here in 2010 when the N900 came out, just use some pen to make the blue part black ->

I installed new camera module into my n900 and managed to fix this "operation failed" error...and this is the outcome:

(UPDATE: Damn camera was faulty)

So i tried to put my old camera module back and then I broke that one little thing inside that makes contact with camera.

Now my phone has 0 MPix. camera.

I just hope this part can be replaced:
