Am I the only one that thinks this is *very* cool?

I, too, think that this is *very* cool.

From an end-user perspective, this is one of the MUST HAVE developments on my list. VERY exciting news!!! Java on the N800 will open up all SORTS of goodness!

This could be pretty cool. I hope they'll have more to say than "uh... N-what?"

Re: Sun web seminar on Java for N800
Well the answer is probably "we're waiting for Nokia to release a software update including a recent version of GTK". The basic JVM has been running on the N800 for a while. How far they're planning to go in Hildon-ising it beyond a basic GTK version is another question.

Re: Sun web seminar on Java for N800
hmm, does the N800 hold a cpu that can process java VM code natively?
i know there exist ARM variants that can do that, but i dont recall reading that the N800 uses a chip that can do so. |

It shouldn't be a problem... I've been runing a JVM on an old school Intel XScale 400 MHz processor for some time now. I believe the N800's TI Omap 2420 integrates ARM's Jazelle Java accelerator. A more elegant solution from what I understand. |
Re: Sun web seminar on Java for N800
I believe the 770 OMAP 1710 CPU supports Jazelle too.
