From an end-user perspective, this is one of the MUST HAVE developments on my list. VERY exciting news!!! Java on the N800 will open up all SORTS of goodness!

No. If I can tune in I will (I am on business in Helsinki this week).

I envision Sametime meetings on my tablet. Ooo, one less reason to lug the laptop...

This could be pretty cool. I hope they'll have more to say than "uh... N-what?"

Well the answer is probably "we're waiting for Nokia to release a software update including a recent version of GTK". The basic JVM has been running on the N800 for a while. How far they're planning to go in Hildon-ising it beyond a basic GTK version is another question.

hmm, does the N800 hold a cpu that can process java VM code natively?

i know there exist ARM variants that can do that, but i dont recall reading that the N800 uses a chip that can do so.

It shouldn't be a problem...

I've been runing a JVM on an old school Intel XScale 400 MHz processor for some time now.

I believe the N800's TI Omap 2420 integrates ARM's Jazelle Java accelerator. A more elegant solution from what I understand.

I believe the 770 OMAP 1710 CPU supports Jazelle too.
