Not sure why you want OS2006 instead of OS2008 but start here:

and here

well since you posted in the 770 forum I would not go for n800 software.
Check out

I suggest OS 2007 HE , the latest verison has the mozilla browser

check out this for mmc boot

Is there an easy way to just reflash/update the mmc OS ?
Or do you have to reflash the internal os and clone this to the mmc ?

and if you reflashed the the internal os, would you lose the modified initfs with boot menu ?

Re: how2 flash mmc image

maybe this does help you:

First you need to unpack the FIASCO-Image (see http://maemo.org/community/wiki/flas...9fe78ecb84a5ba)

After that look here:

http://test.maemo.org/maemowiki/ModifyingRootImage

I followed this instructions to create a tar-archiv from the rootfs.jffs2-file.
Then I uncompressed the tar-archive to the boot-partition an my mmc.
This done, I can boot the fresh system from mmc.

I hope this helps

is there somewhere a HOW2 for this? i have some problems with my current mmc-os. So i want to update the mmc-os(maybe 2007HE) but i donīt really understand how to do this in the easiest way without updating and cloning my flash os...

Re: how2 flash mmc image

I'm also having trouble getting a rootfs going on mmc. I've tried various methods without success.

I've installed fanoush's initfs and also sdhc kernel.

Easily cloning os2006 using tar from mtdblock4 to ext2-formatted mmc2, fanoush's bootmenu immediately gives a message like
Code:

boot from mmc2 failed, booting from flash
Ideally I'd like to be able to construct a bootable mmc from a FIAsCO image on a linux host without cloning on the IT. I tried this using the process at the top of http://maemo.org/community/wiki/HowT...RootFSFromMMC/ and bits from here but using the latest 2006 image instead of dev image and using ext2 instead of ext3. With this method the loader gives a white screen for ~30s and then silently boots from flash.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong in each of these attempts?

In those early moments of booting up, are you sure you're selecting the correct MMC from the Boot Manager? Does it say for both MMC N/A? (Please don't ask why I think to ask this question. :o )

This won't have you booting from a FIAsCO image, but if you are up for trying to clone on the NIT again, give a look at my detailed, quicker, easier, and complete method (that I spent forever working on!) -- see my signature.
