swap and Mer installation questions
1. I cloned OS to internal memory card, and turned on Swap. Does it help?
2. Can I install Mer after N800 boots off SD card? there are 3 partitions in the SD card, DOS, Linux 83 and linux swap. does Mer require a partition for itself? thanks. |
Re: swap and Mer installation questions
I know nothing about Stardict, BUT :
Evince, available from Maemo, reads PDF and other formats. ( It also displays the left contents panel.) Using it, I could highlight text and copy/paste it to another document. You might check if this highlighting is seen by Stardict. |

Sorry, very sorry, my apologies, NOW I can't either ! (Yes, version for diablo.) But I did it some months ago before upgrading diablo and with a possibly older version of evince. As far as I can remember it was with double-click+drag, as when selecting text in a web page. ( Of course, it might have been with selecting all + exporting to text file + selecting again.) The Evince on-line manual mentions select + copy. Might be a suggestion for future versions on the tablet unless I missed the trick. Again, sorry I confused you ! |

2.)Mer will require it's own partition to run. You need a separate linux 83 partition. You will then format that partition as either ext3 or ext2. (there are several other possibilities, but this is most common). You should be advised that many people often dislike the idea of using the a sd (internal or external) as swap or as ext3 because the SD cards have a limited lifetime with regard to the amount of writes that can be done on them and eventually start to fail. Theoretically, you shouldn't reach this number of writes with normal use, but it is worth considering...especially if you have a internal sd card that cannot be replaced (as with the N810). |
