Question about Australian Firmware.
Hey guys im from Australia, brought the N900 off a friend which he got from smoothmobiles. Anyway, ive never updated the firmware, but looking at trying it shortly. Now this is the version i have at the moment when i tap on About Product.
3.2010.02-8.002 Now not sure which country fimrware this is as the phone is orginally from oversea's. I installed Navfirm to see what is avalible. and i see that there is Australian Firmware for the n900 listed. The phone is not even on shelves here yet i dont think. Even though some stores have it as listed in stock. Am i ok to download the Australian firmware then do the whole flash maemo thing which im reading on how to do now.. A site i was linked to a few weeks ago was a nokia site i think where i had to put in my IMEI number to gain access to the maemo flasher and firmware image files. Cheers guys |
Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
you have the latest firmware at the moment, and i think it is probably the generic global one.
Nothing stopping you from flashing the australian version though :) - is it also 3.2010? |
Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
Oh btw how do i know if i have a certain country code, i remember with the n95 8gb people had to use a program to flash the code to there specfic country which gave them additional updates if there were any... Is this the same with the n900 or can i just download the aussie firmware and flash it

Thats correct right the first one there both the same by the looks of it but im worried about the coutry code next to it, is this going to be a problem.. |
Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
looks like an ok image to me, will pretty much be the same as the one you have no reason why you cant backup and reflash.

Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
There are no strange language codes on the N900 (not that I know of, anyway). You should be able to just download and flash whatever firmware you prefer.
The only thing I can think of that could potentially give problems, is flashing a firmware that expects a different keyboard layout. But the problems should be limited to the keyboard. |
Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
Is it worth doing? Whats the beniftes of me having aussie firmware? better reception for 3g or anything like that? or just lanuages and stuff...

Re: Question about Australian Firmware.
wtf???? lol. Buddy there is no Australian firmware. the n900 was and never will be released in Australia. didnt you notice when you first turned it on it wouldn't let you select Australia. and if there was Australian firmware you wont be able to silence the camera sound.
ive had it since November and ive had no problems at all with all networks. aussie firmware on all nokia's is probably the worst in the world. so much restrictions |

i called optus and vodaphone about the n900. they had no idea about when its coming. i called nokia and based on a feasibility test it's not worth coming out, |
