Buying an 9 in 2016
Hi,
I'm looking at getting an N9. I'd just be using it for texting, calling and emailing - everything you could do with the stock apps. I use an iPhone at the moment, but before that I used a Palm webOS phone. When HP pulled the servers, it became hard to activate webOS 1.4.x devices. I read that Nokia's account service for the N9 no longer exists. What does this mean? If I got an N9 and factory reset it, would I just be able to use it? Thanks, Chris |
Re: Buying an 9 in 2016
Hi, I've bought a N9 two weeks ago. There is no need of Nokia Account at all to use N9. But - everytime you switch on the phone, there is an annoying Nokia Account login dialog. You can ignore it by closing/escaping the dialogs. Sort of hacking the phone is needed to permanently cancel this dialogs. Use search here or google it, I can't remember the url/site.

By 'switch on', do you mean turning on the phone from cold, or actually just every time you unlock the thing? |

Warehouse and N9 RepoMirror are a good start.
With a little bit of searching you should find more info quite easily. |

From cold only.
Solution is here: https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1482874 But you need developers mode first and to install the developers mode you need.... :-) Briefly: 1. enable non-store installations (in menu of N9) 2. install https://openrepos.net/content/ancelad/n9-repomirror (replaces dead links to Nokia sw with live ones) 3. switch on developer mode including automatical install of several needed components (in menu of N9) 4. install https://openrepos.net/content/basil/warehouse (= free app store with up to date sw for N9) |
