How to replace the default mail app?
I've installed modest and it works with my gmail account perfectly. and The first problem is that the mail notification is working fine, with one small snag: it launches the built in mail application...

I found the restore functions worked *too* well - it restored my OS2007 settings screwing my OS2008 repository details up...
The repository sites I think (hope?) are down due to loading......

I've set up the repository as per the details in your op but now I'm in a chicken and egg situation:
As I understand it the command line is apt-get as per usual debian based releases to install...

Can't pull down anything. Think in a fit of desperation I've tried every package in the repo's I've got listed (which includes modest).
Going to give up until the weekend...

OS2008 - now can't install any apps...
Upgraded to OS2008 which went fine.
Settings restored (from a 2007 backup) and connects fine to both my mobile and my wireless LAN. Can browse the web with out problems.
Using the email inbox...
