Ah, guess I should start saving up for a better android phone if you're going to move forward with more features there (my G1 eats batteries) or just start carrying around my work blackberry more.

I think the message is/was, Nokia wanted the N900 hacked to death because:

its neat to to geeks and enthusiasts and potentially show some use cases that would make the N900 attractive to that...

Maybe not in the marketing materials, but when it was introduced, they kept stressing that point.

You have to wonder if Nokia is scared of the SSU flashes messing up existing N900s & that's what they're bug testing. If that's the case, I wouldn't mind doing a full wipe and flash.

I'm sure when your car broke down or there was something wrong with it, you could take it in for repair. Also, I'm sure Nissan was able to ship you a car that was bug free unlike Toyota :)

Google Talk video calls work if the web client initiates the video call (must install extra google software for it to work) but you can't initiate a video call from the N900

I'd say wait. If you're looking for a consumer device that anyone can use and enjoy, the N900 might not be for you.

I had my N900 replaced because the screen stopped working. Before that happened though, it was rock solid. Nokia sent me a replacement and it was rebooting constantly. Flashing didn't do anything....

I just received a replacement unit yesterday and its rebooting constantly. Its actually worse than my old N900 (sent it in for other reasons than the reboot) but are we sure its hardware related? ...
