So, here's an update.
I spoke with Nokia on the phone, told them that I had already reflashed the device and that it appeared to be a HW issue. They told me to go online and fill out a repair form...

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a hardware issue.
I flash my N810 and the speakers still did not work. Hmmm... I wonder what the extent of my warranty is if I bought it new off of ebay?

Have you sniffed the wire? Is this how you know there are packets flying? My guess is that the N810 is updating weather, RSS feeds, itsself, etc. But an analysis of the packet dump would be more...
