Re: Can I dial a number from command line?
Well, it could be any shell script. I work about 2/3 of the time in vim and the other 1/3 from the command line. But, yes, text interface. Sure beats using the GUI and having to wait 4 seconds for...

Can I dial a number from command line?
Is there a way I can use the command-line to dial a number? E.g. I want to write a shell script that says something like:
/opt/dialcentral/bin/dialcentral.py ---dial 1-415-555-1234
and then it...

How to make backups of conversations
I have a slightly different question: how do I make backups of the conversation? I guess it's in a text file; I'll eventually figure out how to read the format if it's not in the standard format,...

Re: pinch gesture for single-touch-screen
A great idea! I wonder if the tap could be misinterpreted, and whether it should be a double-tap instead. But on reflection, I think a single-tap is okay.
Tap-swipe. I like that.

Re: Howto: Easy full-system backup with rsync
Agree that you should be aware that the VFAT filesystem (for example, /MyDocs and /media/mmc1 which is the microSD card) does not store permissions.
But having said this, when backing up to VFAT...

Re: Encrypt file in C++
Whoa, there! We're not that desperate, are we? ROT13 is a useless cipher that does not change word spacing, works only on letters, and is practically decipherable mentally without the need for pen...

Re: Howto: Easy full-system backup with rsync
I second the use of rsync to do backups. A few notes:
- if you want to get rsync, you can do it by installing the program "grsync" (available in extras). However, if you don't know how to get...

My opinion of N900
In response to the original post by Outdoors, I'll put my own opinion of the N900 here, hopefully a balanced view that others can use to decide whether to get a N900.
I agree with Rm42 that the...

Links no longer work. Any ideas where we can get a simple but strong encryption package like bcrypt for N900?
(I know about TrueCrypt but would like something simpler where I can encrypt a file,...

Okay, I'm going to post this to make sure I don't forget even though I haven't finished fully characterizing the bug yet.
The software in question which is present by default is the shell...

N900 minus SIM card = not a N900
@jd4200: I think being a phone is intrinsic to the N900, so "you can use it fully (minus making phone calls)" is a contradiction in terms. Once the SIM card is gone, I can't get software updates, I...
