okay i think the source code should be released for many reasons it will allow the platform to grow and live on for a VERY long time, imagine any handset running maemo... Nokia can let community build its next os for them for free, no more expensive R & D work, free labour,... I believe in open source strongly because its the number one medium for innovation...

for example "Interplay & volition" the gaming studio released its "freespace 2" source engine and the modding community has made the game Bigger and Better then ever before even 10 years on...

Imagine a mobile/computing/tablet software platform run by the maemo.org community and I do believe that WE the community can give other os a good run for there money, alas one can still dream...
