Options are:
1. The OS
2. The Apps/Ecosystem
3. The Advertisements/Marketing (Simply how much the company is trying to push it)
4. The name of the company behind it or the fandom
5. Hardware vs. Battery life
6. Engadget reviews :P

It is obviously all of these (well except maybe the last one, but that's hopefully a consequence of the rest). We're disagreeing on the roles of 1 and 2.
Correlation vs Causation:
Do developers come if the operating system is good enough?
Do developers come if there are enough users?
Do users come if there are enough developers?
Do users come if the operating system is good enough?<SNIP>
Some good questions/points mate.
All of which (& more) I'd like to raise/debate in a dedicated thread @MeeGo.
When/if I have the time...
Not a huge priority, as it's extremely unlikely it's ever going to happen.

Also I want to pull away from reading anything to do with MeeGo/N9 for a while.
Far too many other things on my plate.
I will read forum threads intermittently, but I'll cut down on actively partaking.

Looks mostly like a 'storm in a teacup' to me at this early stage.
We won't know the practical implications until well after the N9's out.
As things undoubtedly will have evolved further by then.

It just doesn't seem feasible to remain this way...
It runs totally counter to what was originally planned/discussed.
Qole made some further good points....

Getting closer !.

Expansys was one of the 1st retailers to offer it for pre-order.
It's never specified a date though...
The other info. mentioned in that article has also been posted here.
