Well, zeusenergy, I got most of my idea about the meaning of words changing from my experience of many years as an editor, for academic publications, gambling mags, and chess sites, like for Garry Kasparov, for example. Certainly not from dictionaries.

And surely you can imagine a conversation in which the meaning of a term changes while it is happening. How about "I'm going to hit you with my gzormplat!" That doesn't seem very threatening at first, but when it becomes clear that the speaker is waving a heavy, spiked club, you might feel a thrill of fear. Maybe the wave-er just made the word up, but it can be used just fine.

I'm certain you were trying to help, General. Lots of people are *****s on certain subjects -- me, for example, so you aren't alone. The insurgents who post outside recommended parameters keep multiplying, though, so maybe your approach isn't totally effective.
