...
I don't much care on how much ppl love or hate certain products, but I think factual errors *should* be straightened.

...But who am I kidding, you don't care about all this right?
And I personally don't care which platform 'wins', cause I collect them all..
I do care about it though - because I'm frankly fed up of the iPhone related posts that keep cropping up here by Apple zealots who think this is a new innovation that deserves credit. It's got sucky software and hardware that's limited by design and it stomps on your rights to do what you want with it without breaking the rules and regulations you've signed away when you bought it.

the iphone *can* multitask but it is currently limited by the UI design.

The UI design is the most touted feature of the device. I don't understand how you could have background email/IM checks when EDGE itself is the limiting factor - or is this to do with audio playback whilst doing other things? Presumably you're saying you can have an email program downloading new mail in the background, an IM application loaded and ready, MP3s/Video playing in the backdrop all whilst browsing the internet through Safari? If so I stand corrected :P however ... according to the article later, that's not the case!

free apps

Are we talking about Jailbraking the device? You've invalidated your warranty not to mention broken the terms and conditions by which you've bought the device. My PSP has "free games" if I chip it. My PC has free software if I crack them. I have no right to do so though - and frankly - the denial of my rights makes me think the iPhone is a pile of ****. Want to load another OS on the device - no you can't - you're not allowed to.

A2DP - it doesn't exist. The SDK firmware update never mentioned A2DP. Don't know what insider info you have that suggests it will be implemented in the future. On the iTouch you don't have bluetooth so it will never appear there. The bluetooth stack is known to be shite.

Apple’s Bluetooth File Exchange for Mac OS X cannot send files to the iPhone stating “Device does not have the necessary services.”

iSync for Mac OS X cannot be used to synchronize with the iPhone via Bluetooth, delivering the message “iSync can not connect to this device.”

Bluetooth file transfer is one of THE simplest tasks a bluetooth stack could perform - certainly simpler than streaming mono audio to a headset.

Coreplayer - just seen the video. Presumably it's running on a non-jailbroken iPhone?

Here's a nail in the coffin: "Only one iPhone application can run at a time, and third-party applications never run in the background. This means that when users switch to another application, answer the phone, or check their email, the application they were using quits. (p. 16)"

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/07...s-arent-great/

This means no browsing Safari will listening to music in CorePlayer.
Also, if you answer the Phone while watching a movie, you will have to restart CorePlayer and find your place all over again. [presumably it will leave a bookmark.]

But the real nail in the coffin is this:

"...all iPhone apps will be sandboxed: they won't get access to any memory or filesystem resources"

"you can't sideload or sync that data from a PC, and you can't get it from any other iPhone application. And you also don't have access to any shared data stores."

*shrugs*

What am I trying to accomplish? I'm not trying to massage my hurt jealous onlooking ego if that's what you're getting at...I have the resources to get all the devices out there - I chose not to. ;-)

Factual innacuracy - perhaps - I'm only going on what I've read - perhaps your insider info is more accurate - but at the moment I think most of what I've written stands.

Summary:
The i***** just plain sucks. Jailbrake the device and hope for the best. Fingers X'ed Apple or your Phone Provider don't rape you with a crippling firmware update.

Stick with the SDK and suffer the afformentioned issues.

At the end of the day - don't come here and tell me that it's better than sliced bread because it's been proven that it isn't.
