A few users have reported problems connecting to certain servers, so Detlef and I will test out with some of the latest servers and see if we can reproduce. If necessary, we might provide a special version of VNC viewer that prints out some additional debug information to the command-line. VNC viewer already prints out some information to the command-line--to see it, start xterm and run vncviewer.sh from the command prompt. And command-line output will appear in xterm.
