No, I mean using the applications manager.

Click the menu (little squares, top left corner)
Click 'More' (Bottom right corner)
Choose 'App manager' (second line, 1st in left)

click 'download'

Drop top menu down (little blue triangle on the top bar) and check which Application catalogues are enabled (click cataloges) - you should have nokia updates, nokae applications and Maemo extras coloured and enabled. Anything else should be greyed out.

Click off the cataloges to return to the available applications list. Everything in those lists should be stable. Betas and apps under development are stored elsewhere. You can go there when you get more confident.

Browse the list to choose what you want - you can preview by using the downloads list here or on Maeemo-select. When you find something you want, simply click on it. If it's a Maemo-extras app you'll be asked to agree a disclaimer. Then choose 'install'. The device will do all the rest.
