This will be an interesting one to follow. Today much of this rich content is using flash which is far from open either, and IMHO on platforms where it is available is very poor in terms of acceleration.

HTML5 suggests a more open standard, yet H264 which YouTube are using is surrounded by licensing issues too.

Google and apple seem onboard with H264, and with very broad coverage this could make it tricky for firefox/maemo to continue with the insistance that H264 is not appropriate due to the licensing issues....
