Actually, if you read he said that it just affected his files on there, not maemo. Also, had maemo had the drive mounted this would not happen. When you go into mass storage mode it unmounts your personal files. So, technically, he plugged what is equal to a usb thumb drive to an infected windows pc, unplugged it, and plugged it back into his phone.
