Geostationary is a "subcase" of geosynchronous. Geosynchronous does not guarantee an orbit that is circular, just that it takes 24h to go around the Earth. In plain English, geosynchronous means that looking from the Earth, it always RETURNS to the same spot after 24h, while geostationary means it STAYS in one spot for 24h
