Here is the log of my monorail removal using "apt-get remove monorail" on the command line ... I just removed it and nothing else and no reboot/reinstall of anything and xournal started working

Possible the diversion of the libsharingdialog by monorail is the underlying problem ... xournal is not happy with the one under /usr/lib/funsharing/
