That's what MS wants Nokia to think.

Except by then the desktop would've moved on and you probably wouldn't want to be running the desktop of 4 years ago on your shiny new phone.

Other companies put WP7 on their phones and no one screamed that companies like HTC or Dell were going to go out of business as a result. Why is this going to kill Nokia?
HTC had nothing to lose and probably gets paid by MS for making WM phones. Others like Dell, Samsung etc have other products to rely on. Since Nokia stopped making rubber boots, paper, televisions etc, phones are their main product line. Betting your future on a proven loser of an OS is suicidal.
