Fallen: Some software is text based and runs from the command line or doesn't make a launcher icon for itself. In either case, it usually puts itself somewhere in the PATH (in other words you don't have to be in a specific directory (folder) in order to run it). If you've got xTerm installed, you should be able to run it, then type in the program name to get it to run. (The actual program name should be found in the documentation of whatever program you're trying to run). The command prompt can be a little scary but there's lots of great HOW-TOs out there by ppl in the tablet community.
