And I absolutely, 100% agree with you there. Another point my sarcasm failed to convey. I've always been taught not to touch computer screens with my fingers. It is so ingrained in me that it feels horribly wrong and unnatural to do so.

Nokia & Apple, talk to me again when you've developed tech to absorb screen oil & dirt (along with tactile feedback)

Nokia has been quite vocally working on the latter. I presume personal grooming will solve most of the former.

A clean touchscreen is a wipe-on-the-sleeve away.
It'd certainly help if the NITs had screens flush with the device face though.

(I'm sure it's recessed to protect the screen, or some other horribly practical reason. But I'd be uber-geeked if they found a way to do a heavy protective glass screen --ala jesusPhone-- but didn't lose the pressure sensitivity.)

I only touch the N800 with my hands, not my hair or face. I don't see what personal grooming has to do with it... and becoming an obsessive-compulsive hand washer is not an ideal solution. I'm already obsessive enough about keeping the screen clean
I did hear about Nokia's tactile touch-screen feedback tech. Pretty cool, that.

The iPhone/Touch is the only style of screen I would ever use my fingers on or wipe with a sleeve. Still, it is just as likely to transfer dust back onto the screen that way. I like to use my devices more than I clean them.
