The way I used that Vodafone "driver" (it's support software mostly, actually) with my USB 3G/HSDPA dongle was to connect the dongle to the desktop linux box, run the software there (and power the USB dongle from it), and connect a wi-fi router to the desktop PC. Then some fiddling with iptables and routing, and my NIT connected fine.
