Thanks for your help as we want to release a few video apps for the N900 and want to see what will give the best user experience.

i got same prob i think a bug has been posted for this, i think someone mentioned it freezes on first frame but plays audio correctly? can someone confirm?

I can confirm this.
I use VDR & streamdev-server.
With mplayer I can get video working, but with N900 mediaplayer one still image with audio track playing.
