I don't even think 20% of the popularity know about this device, apart from a few advertisements in mobile shops or the "nerds" who are all over it. hmm
I think it's more that Nokia has had trouble manufacturing it or they started manufacturing them to late. I'm not convinced that the delay was because of firmware (if that's the case you can still manufacturer the devices and move them into place).

Nokia could have 1 million units sitting around but it does take some time to flash, package, ship overseas to distribution centers that then ship to retailers (online or otherwise). This does not happen overnight. For all we know they are on a container ship heading to the US and Europe from Korea.

Err, generally you don't flash them to the latest firmware. Once the device is created (and stress tested if a company chooses to do so) they are given whatever firmware is available at the time and packaged up. It's when the consumer finally opens the box that they get an alert with instructions to download the firmware update.

Nokia sells over 1 million phones per day since 2006 I believe.

Logistics pro'ly ain't a problem for a company that ships on that scale daily.

What changes in the last minute more often than not is marketing.
Also the unexpected demand for another, older product has been known to cause delays by taking up a new products intended space in the delivery chain.
