Well, like I said, writing a new UI is NOT an easy task. Talking purely theoretically here (I'm no programmer) we will at least need to:

1) Come up with a new UI that hooks up properly to the Maemo APIs to display whatever we need.

2) Make it run IN PLACE of Hildon desktop. Properly.

3) Make it play nice with the default OS programs that we cannot replace (yet) such as Phone.

4) Make it play nice with the default widgets, OR provide a widget infrastructure the replace the default one (heck, I'm no widget lover but app shortcuts, web shortcuts, contacts and the calendar are essential items).

5) Make it run smoothly, without eating too much resources.

Daunting task I tell you. But not impossible. Anybody remember GDesk for Symbian? Not bugless but extremely loved anyway lol.

Now to find anyone even remotely interested in doing it, that would be the main problem.

As it is, it would be a far better solution to just wait for somebody to backport the Meego UI back to Maemo lol. Then we will have the power of Maemo with the sheen of Meego lol.

Yeah, GDesk was awesome on my E71. Was kind of hard to use without touch screen though
