Hiya

I was wondering how you guys got around the dependicies needed to install GNU tar on OS2007HE

I was having the same problem (diff dependicies) on OS2006, I don't know what I did to fix it though

Anyhelp?

And before you say use search function, I've done that with little success.

Trawling through entire threads for obscure references in one or two posts aint fun was up till 3 in the morning last night

Although I did get loads of other useful info, nothing that could help however.

no, the "dependencies" are still there, however, just do an apt-get -d install tar and it will only download it... then you can just extract the binary from that.

I see thank you for the info

But the file doesnt appear to download to apt archive

Can i put it there manually? Using copy command?

rm /bin/tar

cp /path/to/tar /bin

OR

ln -sf /path/to/tar /bin/tar

Yup thats done it cheers for that

I had multiple copies of the tar file extracted from diffrent places, your's was the only one that worked

Copying over at the moment

Time to record this in the blog so I don't forget next time.
