Has anyone looked into the possibility of porting Homeworld to Maemo?

Relic released the source a few years back, and there is an existing SDL port underway (http://www.thereisnospork.com/projec...orld/#download and http://www.homeworldsdl.org/ )Though I admit, it doesn't seem to have been updated in a little while...

The original specs for Homeworld make it seem possible for the N8x0 at least.

I am working on learning how to port applications to Maemo now, but this looks like a much larger project then I could handle for my first attempt.

anyone interested?

No.

"OpenGL-compatible 3D-accelerated video card"

I guess playing Homeworld on the N8x0 with software rendering won't be much fun.

I dont know, I am playing it in software rendering now (on windows), and it isnt bad. Granted it is NOT as nice and sharp as the 3d card, but it is playable. certainly, it will look a lot sharper on a 5' 800x480 screen than it does on my 19' lcd... (in 800x600)

I was just thinking about everyone who has been asking for all these closed source games, and here is one that the company actually opened, I thought it might be worth a try. I certainly will TRY if no one else does, but since I am brand new to porting it will probably take months just to get the source into scratchbox let alone compile it...

It's not going to work both for Homeworld and Freespace2 - both ports require OpenGL.

That's too bad, I was hoping since there was a software 3d mode (as well as D3D(DirectX) and OpenGL) in the original that it might be possible.

Since I obviously don't understand the difference, can software support SDL and require OpenGL at the same time?

Any software open source or otherwise that supports OpenGL can NOT be ported to the Tablet? I only ask so that I understand what is possible and what isn't. I don't want to keep mentioning software that isnt possible.

Yes it can - if you read the readme of HWSDL 0.3, it doesn't say that OpenGL is required for building, yet there's no way to disable it. HWSDL starts with software rendering but the readme clearly mentions that the software rendering is not finished and can't be used, so use OpenGL instead...

t3h: Vincent is barely making 10 fps with glxgears.
