Just got a 16 gig SD card and I am looking to check out some other operating systems on my n900, NitDroid and Meego later on when more functions are available.

I'm a bit hazy on the partitioning of the SD card. I found the guide on the NitDroid wiki: http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install

I am wondering what extra steps I would need to add another 2 gb partition for the meego OS?. Is 2 gbs even enough for Meego?

Does multiboot install with NitDroid automatically, or do I have to still do that manually?

Thanks for any advice,

So i tried to follow the instructions in the wiki and nothing seems to happen while partitioning.

i type in the sudo gainroot then umount /dev/mmcblk1p1 and i get unmount: not found

if I try any of the other lines I press enter and nothing seems to happen. The courser just hops to the next line blinking.

and I tried out making a 3rd partition after that by adding to what was in the wiki:

sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF
,<YOUR NUMBER IN MB>,C
,<YOUR NUMBER IN MB>,D
,,L
,,
EOF

umount /dev/mmcblk1p1

mkdosfs /dev/mmcblk1p1
mke2fs -D Meego -j -m0 /dev/mmcblk1p2
mke2fs -L NITDroid -j -m0 /dev/mmcblk1p3

But like everything else, it didnt seem to do anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

alright so i kept typing unmount for some reason.. no wonder xterm was telling me i was stupid.

so nex i try:

Code:
 Nokia-N900:~# sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF
> ,<10000>,C
> ,<2000>,L
> ,,L
> ,,
> EOF
and get:
Code:
Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ...
OK

Disk /dev/mmcblk1: 486192 cylinders, 4 heads, 16 sectors/track
Old situation:
Units = mebibytes of 1048576 bytes, blocks of 1024 bytes, counting from 0

Device Boot Start End MiB #blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk1p1 0+ 15193- 15194- 15558136 b W95 FAT32
/dev/mmcblk1p2 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
/dev/mmcblk1p3 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
/dev/mmcblk1p4 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
trailing junk after number

sfdisk: bad input
trying to make a 10 gb partition and two 2 gb partitions for meego and andriod.

Yup was just going to post that i did it without the <>
then after a reboot I was able to make up the other 2 partitions with:

Code:
mkdosfs /dev/mmcblk1p1
mke2fs -L NITDroid -j -m0 /dev/mmcblk1p2
mke2fs -L Meego -j -m0 /dev/mmcblk1p3
Lucky I made that 2nd partition nitdroid, because auto installer seemed to just choose that drive.

right now waiting for the long download.

Thanks for letting me think allowed here on the forums.

Perhaps it's easier to partition the SD card in Ubuntu using gparted (especially if you want multiple partitions)? I did that when I was trying Easy Debian.
Don't have clue how to this in Windows.

Wow, this is incredibly refreshing for this forum, someone asking a question in a polite way and then giving it a go entirely by themselves and asking the right questions in the right way when stuck.

Well done, no seriously I'm not being sarcastic, this forum really does need more people like you (I'm not forgetting all of the insanely talented people here, thank you as well).

I am slightly less talented. So i tend to get stuck on the small things.

I did look up partitioning an SD card with windows. They wanted you to mess with the registry and try and tell windows that the SD card wasnt a removable card...

seemed easier to just mess with it in Xtem.. whats the worst that could happen? I would have to learn how to flash my n900? heh.

Alright, not sure if i can trouble shoot myself around this one.

Getting an issue while installing NitDroid now. Automatic Failure. :/

Code:
Type 'YES' if you accept the terms and take the risk >YES

Good! Here we go.

Uninstalling any incompatible software ...done
Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p1 (vfat) ...done
Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p2 (ext3) ...expr: non-numeric argument
sh: 0: unknown operand
done

Going to download the installation files. This will take a rather long time!

Downloading nitdroid.manifest ...done
Mounting /dev/mmcblk1p2 ...done
Extracting NitDroid-0.0.8-Popov.tar.bz2 ...FAILURE. Bailing out.
Guess I'll try uninstalling and re-installing the auto installer.
