OS2008. Trying to install from rtcomm.garage.maemo.org. I have set the red pill (whatever that means!). I click on the installer link. It says the software is OS2008 beta. When I try to run the installation, I get:

unable to install. some packages required for the installation are missing

I'm trying to set up a sip client to access my asterisk server. I've done some searching and apparently this has been a problem for others. Is there a solution?

help!

rtcomm is already installed in OS2008, just click on the icon below the web browser and select "New Internet Call"

Intersting if rtcomm is alread installed. I'm trying to use rtcomm as a SIP phone, to connect to our asterisk system. The rtcomm web site says it can do that. When I use the OS2008 internet call setup, it asks me to set up either google talk or jabber. I don't want either of those. Can I manually enter the call setup information somewhere?

Just hit the presence statusbar applet and go to Account settings, then choose SIP in the dropdown menu.

OK, General, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. I click on the people icon on the left side (OS2008). There is a menu item "set presence". That is greyed out on my N800. Is that what you mean?

If you click on the availability ball up in the status panel, under presence settings you should see Account settings. There you can set up and enable/disable sip accounts etc..

If you don't have that Presense thing (either red ball with white line across, or solid green ball, or something else if you are online but not "available"), then you need to go to Control Panel and click Accounts. There you can create new accounts (SIP, Jabber, Gtalk). Once one account is created the Presence icon will appear into your status bar.
