most likely rubber bands, kinda like a gatling gun.

each spike holds one end of a rubber band and then there is some kind of mechanism that flips it of, making it shoot forwards.

im guesstimating that it holds some 72 bands

Yeah, is a *rubber band shooter*. It holds and shoots max 288 rounds (rubber bands).

hmm, 288, talk about me being off (but then trying to count the number of "barrels" where not the easiest from those images)
