I have looked through some older posts and saw that users were recommending the claws mail client if you want to have some control of spam. Is this still the general consensus? Thanks

Hi, what is this about? Linux Desktop? N810? N900?
Normally it's up to a specific application, like SpamAssassin or Bogofilter.
Unrelated to the email application itself as long as it's supported.

Claws-mail comes with plugins for both SpamAssassin and Bogofilter. Both do local filtering on the client and require the corresponding back-end to be installed as well. IMHO if at all possible you should do the spam labelling on the server and just filter on headers on the client.

I think, claws is good email client but it isn't hildonized yet. Regarding to SPAM it leverages bogofilter/spamassassin etc. of course, but from what I know, Modest MUA does not have filtering at all. And, as a general side note, having all the anti-spam stuff may hog precious memory.

yeah the spam filtering of bogo or spamassassin are very RAM intensive and keep even a full blown root server busy sometimes. spam filtering should happen on the server as I, and I think you all will agree, dont want to have my device freeze for 2 minutes while a spam software is checking my 40 emails during download. Sorting them 2 not spam to my inbox and moving the rest to my spam4review or just spam folder...
