Lowly PHP developer here...

I would love to create some more "native" Maemo apps but don't really have the time right now to add Python or full blown GTK programming to my to-do list. (unless someone wants a 2 year old for a couple months) So I'm looking for some input from the developer gods on ITT.

Assuming I have a working PHP install on OS2008, do you think it would be possible to compile and use PHP-GTK to create apps?

http://gtk.php.net/

Is it possible? Hopless? Any input would be helpful at this point..

It certainly seems like it could bring some PHP developers into the fold -- or maybe that's a "bad" thing.

I can say that php-gtk will compile through the maemo 5 sdk. Here is a screenshot for now until I get some instructions together

Hi.

Please post these instructions. I am considering leaving Android for Nokia because of PHP-GTK.

I have already written several applications for the OpenMoko in PHP-GTK, and I would love to continue writing PHP-GTK on the Nokia N900!

I am about to buy 2x N900 for both me and my GF, if I can use PHP-GTK on them :-)

While it is possible, what benefit besides your lack of programming knowledge would PHP-GTK bring to Maemo?

We already have GTK, QT, GTK-mm, SDL, Perl, and Python. Pretty soon the 2GB of app space will be filled up with support libraries alone...

Thats the great thing about Maemo we can fill our 2GB with what ever we want. Including Libraries.

Just a quick update - I bought the phones and set up a repository with PHP-GTK.

It works fine. I also compiled some of the most used extensions for PHP (mysqp, pqsql, ftp, xml* and so on).

Please see this post on how to set up the repository and then do a "apt-cache search php":
