I have a problem, pretty frustrating cuz I can't get quake 3 to work yet on my N900 , I did pretty much everything plus I see the .pk3 files in the /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/ folder. but when I try to run the game, I get a black screen and after like 5 seconds in sends me back to desktop.
What am I actually doing wrong ? Or am I missing something ?

This may be a silly question, but did you install open arena as well as ioquake? I assume open arena is the app you'll want to run.
