Interesting stuff. The Nuvis are top of their class for GPS. We'll see how well it translates into a phone.

Did anyone else notice there are not screenshots or pictures of an input method? I hope they don't use that large standard soft phone keypad for all text input. Other than that this thing looks really awesome.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Verizon opening their network to other devices. From what I read, the devices have to certified by Verizon to run on Verizon's network.

Companies that are not known for cellular devices may be trying to cash in?

I would love to actually believe that, but I've just sent back my second Nuvi 370 due to corrupt European maps that would send every simulated route off the route sending it through lakes, over fields and right off the map. Based on the time I've spent with it in simulation mode ( haven't had a chance to test it in Europe), I wouldn't let it guide me the way out of a paper bag, never mind a European trip. Funny enough, the U.S maps work fine, but if it's strike three on my third unit, I'm sending it back and I'm willing to give the wayfinder software a go even if it does take an eternity to lock on to the gps satellites.

Anyone know if there is a way to do a simulation routing mode on wayfinders mapping software for the N810?

Yeah, I guess I can't speak for Europe, but they're absolutely fantastic in the US. My family has been using Garmin units since the iQue 3600.

According to the information trickling out of Garmin it doesnt as its a GSM/HSDPA unit. Verizon is CDMA.

From the media galery http://www8.garmin.com/buzz/nuvifone/media_gallery.jsp

I see too many "bars" icons... I think it has WiFi.

No mention about input methods, but I think it's all thumb-driven.

What I do like is the full integration of the applications.
It's GPS soul is very strong (of course is a Garmin product), but looks like they haven't forgotten about integration with the camera (geotagging out of the box) and a suite of PIM applications.

I hope it runs Linux. A few icons are very close to the Maemo ones.

EDIT: the nüvifone home page is here: http://www.garmin.com/nuvifone/

All of the info I've seen mention the "proprietary Garmin OS", which makes me think that it might well be nearly impossible to acquire new programs for that phone. Other that that though, it looks absolutely fabulous.

If it has its YetAnotherOwn OS, than it's not for me even if it looks quite cool indeed.
