The argument that Nokia would prefer to have the platform hackers separated from the rest doesn't stand. The Maemo platform is open and the devices that come with it are open: being hackable is part of the deal. Maemo SW is supporting explicitely Mer without putting conditions on what is underneath the Maemo 5 API. We haven't stopped anybody to install and promote alternative desktop or entire operating systems. penguinbait, specially you have been supported with easier access to hardware and events for you great hacks, just like any other senior developer in the house.
From a Nokia point of view there is not a huge difference between a user installing Mauku, rotation support, KDE or Android: all of them have crossed the line of the 100% supported software and in a worst case all of them can come back to the factory settings by reflashing.
Note that a single and apparently innocent desktop widget can drain silently the battery. This makes users think there is something wrong with their Nokia devices, they are unhappy and complaining about the wrong thing ("this battery sucks!") and calling Nokia Care. This is the kind of software that we want to keep far from the average end user.
Installing Debian with KDE in a chroot and hav fun with it? No problem since it's clear that the users going that way know what they are doing.

In fact if someone can provide me a list of threads that used to be in the KDE forum, not just a list of threads with KDE in the title. I would happily go through each one and update the tags. The point is this does not really make things easier to users running these hacks, and it actually makes it more difficult to support.

Please don't confuse cracking with hacking. NIT people, of all people, should know the difference.

I am proposing creating a hackers forum. Run by the user, owned by the users.
To me, it really makes sense, since this siie can concentrate on supported applications and provide a separate place to discuss hacks on the internettablets. Not only does this stem from my dis-satisfaction with the kingdom at the moment. It may just make sense. Then people wont come here thinking somehow that these hacks are safe and work flawlessly because maemo.org is where they learned about them?
I have thrown up a forum site, perhaps not the best choice of words?
Anyway, read the charter, if enough people join I will hand over the keys.
Want to run the show, here's your opportunity.

I asked for moderator access back in March.
I will make a more formal request: I would like to be given moderator access to the Alternatives forum.

So what I am asking is would it be possible to change all the titles of the posts to add KDE: Android: or MER: to the beginning of the post.
I still would like a list of all the old posts so I can get all the tags updated.

I've been going through all the threads in Alternatives, adding tags (kde, palm, android, debian, deblet, mer, easy debian, etc etc etc) to them. I think this will accomplish what penguinbait wants...
I sorted all of the Alternatives threads by number of posts, descending and I'm working my way down the list.
I can only add 2 tags for threads that aren't mine.
Reggie added those [Tags] to the subject of the threads in each subforum. This is the way to know exactly what was there.
I think the main problem with this, you assume that only threads people are activley posting in are some home more worth,y then small threads with 3-7 posts solving a problem, or succinctly lay out something I did not include in the main install thread. Main threads are fine, but its about support, and it will lead to more posts. KDE is not the only casualty of this though. I guess if we could have been notified. Like me for KDE and bun for Android. We could have at least gone through and added tags to all the old threads that would make them more useful. In fact if someone can provide me a list of threads that used to be in the KDE forum, not just a list of threads with KDE in the title. I would happily go through each one and update the tags. The point is this does not really make things easier to users running these hacks, and it actually makes it more difficult to support.
Again, from my perspective
To all my Maemo friends. I will no longer be monitoring any of my threads here on a regular basis. I am no longer supporting anything I did under maemo at maemo.org. If you need some help with something you can reach me at tablethacker.com or www.facebook.com/penguinbait. I have disabled my PM's here, and removed myself from Council email and Community mailing list. There has been some fun times, see you around.
