Would anyone know how to delete a unwanted program off of the N900. Help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to reboot several time and the program is still residing on the system. I do not know if this can be done through x term or not but would think so. The program is called "Cellular Modem Control UI-Power Key buttons" once I have uninstalled the program it still shows up in the Power Key selection as a usable program and does not uninstall. This may be because of the reboot requiring the program to run.

It installs a file to /etc, so dpkg marks that file as a "conffile". Long story short, Application Manager won't remove that file with its usual uninstall procedure.

Become root, run "apt-get remove --purge cell-modem-ui" and reboot.

You didn't spell the command right, also make sure the graphical package manager isn't running at the same time...
(and let a minute or two pass after you quit it)

you can also try:

Code:
dpkg --purge cell-modem-ui

You need to become root first. Use the application manager to install the rootsh package, then come back to the terminal and run "sudo gainroot", then run "apt-get purge cell-modem-ui". Be warned that being root gives you full access to your phone, so you can potentially break it, so don't mess around.

I'm the maintainer of cell-modem-ui "Cellular Modem Controls". Glad you got it solved. Thanks to Mikkov this thread came to my knowledge, but as the other maintainers would also tell you, I cannot see every thread on talk and proper way would be making a bug to project's bugtracker.

I'll fix this issue in next release. Everyone have a nice holidays and lucky new year!

New release 0.3-0 is at extras-testing.

Changelog:
Code:
cell-modem-ui (0.3-0) unstable; urgency=low

   * Fixed uninstall issue sometimes experienced
   * Fixed XB-Maemo-Display-Name to be shorter
   * Optified
The functionality is pretty much frozen and completed for this simple app, and only thing missing is localization. I'll try to publish initial rev with translations soon.

Applet version will have more features and its under development still. Announce will be made when its testable.
