Stepping into the next room and introducing a single wall barrier between the N900 and the access point steps up the problem incrementally. By the time I get across the house, audio quality has deteriorated to the point that my test message’s playback is totally unintelligible. This was with two out of three bars still showing on the Wi-Fi connection.
At this point, I started to doubt my access point. After all, that Belkin Wi-Fi phone had been atrocious in my environment, too. As we’ll soon see with the next phone, though, my access point is fine. This is an issue with the N900's radio.

I've set up a SkypeIn number (now called Skype Online Number I think) and when I have a friend call this number from his mobile it seems the quality his end goes from being great to being really quite terrible where it's just a mash of words and he can't hear what I'm saying - there's no pattern to this.
There are a couple of points here though:
1) If this just happened over 3G (I'm with Vodafone UK) then that would at least explain it (maybe traffic filtering etc) and I could look at maybe just using it with Wifi. However, it appears to be just as bad with Wifi - and I have a decent (20Mbit) internet connection at home.
2) Even more frustrating, throughout the entire time he experiences variable call quality, I can hear the feed from his mobile clear as a bell and it never drops. It's as if the packets are being recieved by the n900 fine but not sent so well.
I was wanting to use the Skype number for business purposes as a second line to the phone so I'm really hoping to get this sorted. I'm quite willing to install updated packages from devel or test etc.
Has anyone experienced this issue? I've had a dig round the forum and it seems a lot of people have perfect call quality and I can't see a huge amount of people having quality issues. So why is mine so bad, even over WiFi? Any ideas? Is it worth going with a different SIP provider and setting this up in the phone? Will it integrate as well as Skype does?
Thanks
