you make the taskbar transparent(use theme customizer) and then create a wallpaper with a longer / better taskbar on drawn on it.

My Desktops. On the bottom arrows there are 2 full transparent desktop switcher widgets. At beginning I had put some tabs in the background with trasparent switchers but it was taking too much space and I abandoned that idea.
