Actually you must type this, if you have issue on N900's internal memory:
sudo gainroot
umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
fsck -af /dev/mmcblk0p1
mount /home/user/MyDocs
This is the same as anthonie posted, but he didn't specify partition/drive (he wrote just "/card").

On purpose, actually. As I had no way of knowing how the FS on his machine is and OP didnīt provide any details on that. So I tried to be as generic as possible, assuming he would figure it out anyway.
I have a problem on my n900, I can not delete, copy or move any of my files (videos, pictures, songs...) , if I try is says the file is read-only...?
