Let's see,

I bought my n800 as a toy and then os2008 came out and ....
Two sdhc memory card slots(32gb coming in a month).
Full KDE(thanks Penguinbait)
Operating system on a removable sdhc card(thanks fanoush), I partitioned mine with 4gb for memory and 12gb for storage and my other sdhc card has 15.5gb for all my mobile content.
Removeable batteries(I bought 10 for $8 each last week).
External hub that I have attached additional sdhc cards, DVD player, printer, (getting mouse next, etc...)
Remote access both ways to PC, MAC and Linux.
I paid $200 for my n800 brand new.
16gb sdhc cards I bought for $60 last week.
Play Doom, Quake, etc...
Wifi antennas that pickup the most faint wifi signals of any computer anywhere in the world I have travelled.
I have over 200 apps that I have gotten for free.
Music and movies in any format I like with xmm, media player, etc...
Remote control my entire entertainment system.
Altered every part of this little beast to my liking not Mr. Jobs liking.
The best part is this community of nXXX users that really help make the device and experience a real pleasure.
Stick with the n800. They will fix the mapper problems.
I can't wait to see os2009 and hopefully n900 will have a quad band phone, two sdhc memory slots and a beefier processor and graphics chips. lol, Dan

Yup, N800 is the uber device. And you can do mobile pen testing with the bugger. Have to look into doing an internal sd boot. Can you clear out the memory to have more RAM available?

There would go my last reason to hold onto the n800. I love Maemomapper. And it's the only reason I did not jump to the iPhone or Touch but if the linked report is true and it works with ny Holux Gpslim and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it'll be bye bye N800.
End of the product road???

Not hardly. Maybe for some individuals, but not in general. Again: the tablets have uses the iPhones do not. The converse is also true, though... so when next year's tablet comes out, will you be fair and predict the end of the iPhone?

My company has the receipts so I can't give you exact vendor. If you go to google shopping type in Nokia BP-5L. There are at least three vendors that sell them for $8. Make sure they have the actual Nokia battery logo and not the cheap Chinese knockoff. Been using them all week no problems so far. They all charged up well. Can't wait for my next long hall flight(18+ hours). Dan

Texrat,

Any word on ballpark release date for os2009 and or n900?
Anything you can share. I've gotten all the executives in my company the n800's with the changes from ITT threads. They love them. They keep bugging me about n900 with hopefully a phone and two sdhc card slots, keyboard, gps, etc... would be nice.
We use them all over the world! No more laptops for us on the road. It's the future of computing. Thanks, Dan

Wish I could say something on each of those topics, but I can't, sorry. That has to come from proper channels. I can say a LOT of work is being done, and the future looks really exciting for the product line. Anyone who has come to trust my comments should find some comfort in that vague statement... right?

Texrat,

Thanks, I understand. keep up the great work.

What started out as a toy for me has turned into the most incredible travel tool I have ever had. I can say that at least 50 senior executives have bought the n800 from just showing them what I could do with it.
The one thing that really concerns me and other new users to linux is how difficult it is to find and install apps. This has improved in the past six months but it still difficult. The other major concern is will all the apps port easily to os2009 and or n900. I've got over 100 apps installed and it will be a real nightmare if it isn't seemless.
I've really noticed a huge interest in remote access on these threads(we need a simple how to). I've been testing out VNC server/viewer for connecting to PC's and Vine viewer/sever for MAC(local wifi access looks amazing, next remote). Linux VNC will be next. Once they are all working flawlessly I will have all our executives install into their n800. This is a major plus for our guys flying all over the world. This is great for corporate work.
After that will be the usb mouse.
Again thanks for your time and effort.

Dan
