Pretty weird, right? I was expecting that too. Must be a chipset thing. (That is, if it's not already part of the chipset (like the phone which MUST have GPS by law in the US) then they forego bothering to go through the cost and effort to add a GPS chip and antennae.) That's just my guess, anyway.

@danramos: I don't know, unless the gps chip is so expensive and big (doubtful) that it'd significantly change the touch's appearance, I think this is just Jobs putting differentiator to justify iphone's more than 2x pricetag.

Well Apple DID invent the only phone with the "Grip Of Death" feature... Before the iPhone 4, this feature was only available to Vulcans

There must be my mobile operator's cellular base station in my @$$, because i've gripped my iphone4 hard for a few minutes without affecting the signal.

In all seriousness, either i've an updated hardware revision that has addressed the signal issue, or it's some overhyped FUD that doesn't affect all of their products.

At any rate, i think it's time to use another attack vector towards iphone 4...

I've always thought the Grip-of-Death was a weak argument 'against' the iPhone. As I understand it, most devices have some sort of flaw or limitation. Having owned an N810, I can sincerely attest to that.

you have had your share of apple propaganda. Antenna detuning is somewhat big failure, but the real problem was antennaegate: faking videos from competitors devices and saying "fck off and stfu" to buying customers who had problems...

Eh, sure - the iPhone 4 has many other flaws, but I think that the 'Grip of death' is the funniest of all: for once, Apple tried to use a different antenna design other than the design they copied from Nokia, and it ended up as a miserable fail.
I know you know deep down that such a hardware design flaw cannot be resolved by a mere software update - therefore I don't see any reason why should anyone "use another attack vector towards iphone 4" - as this one is quite enough

i wanna know why are you bashing on apple.

if it wasnt for apple, people wouldnt have a sweet music store(itunes)
Assuming you are an American, have you tried to buy songs from the Swedish Itunes, German Itunes, Australian Itunes, UK Itunes?

You should try it sometime and see what kind of a trade barrier it is. After you have then maybe you can send a thank you email to Steve?
