This would be nice for most of the emulators since they usually run 4:3 games. These then have black borders left and right on the built-in screen (which is prfectly fine), but get an additional top and bottom black border on tv-out. The latter doesn't make much sense since this results on black borders on all four sides on tv-out. Instead the image could just be fullscreen for 4:3 content on the 4:3 tv-out.

How can software change this? I didn't find anything in the APIs.
It seems you can make modifications in:
/sys/dev/ices/platform/omapdss/ see

Otherwise, I'm trying to install Gstreamer plugin or at least gst-plugins-base:
http://maemo.gitorious.org/maemo-mul.../xvimagesink.c

But no success so far...

So would it be possible to write some app like tweaker to change the aspect ratio? If I recall even the notorius n97 had this feature as a stannard. I can't believe that the maemo team has overlooked this feature
