"The company". You guys believe in Dragons and Fairytales? A company is group of people trying to earn money for their work.

I think the price is steep for the quality of the road data, and I don't have the needs for the routing function, so I don't buy it. Simple.
If you need the routing function every day, you will buy it because it has the value for you.

One should be able to buy routing "credits" :-)

Is there a way to activate turn-by-turn navigation for the countries that you did not buy, e.g., if I buy tbt-nav for Western Europe but want to have it for Australia too.

I couldn't agree more with the pirate's side of the argument here. Morals exist to serve humans and help humans get along together. Modern, major corporations are sufficiently abstracted from actual human society that "hurting" them in this small way *absolutely does not* translate into hurting a fellow human.

It (a) hurts the company only, and (b) in such a small way that they can't feel it. Companies do not feel compassion or have morals. They do whatever they can get away with to make money (which is what they're supposed to do.) I treat them the same way.
I concur.

To all those that dont understand or see this side of the argument...

REMEMBER THIS:

A corporation has one allegiance ( to shareholders) Only one concern (PROFITS for shareholders). That is, they are only concerned (and have a legal obligation to be so) concerned about shareholder profits. At least this is how it is in the US.

All I'm asking for from Nokia is a faster satellite fix and I'll buy the wayfinder product. I found it usable on my 7 day trial. Sure, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it's workable with every day use and that's all I need. If Nokia can just make it initially lock on faster, I'll tolerate the wayfinder software's limitations in comparison to Tomtom, Garmin, etc. The point is I'm carrying a convergence device with built in maps and possible gps routing loaded with 20 movies on it, 30 TV shows, 35 e-books, 350 songs ( 8GB + 4 GB mini cards), I've been using skype for phone calls, I'm using GPE with basic calender, a to do list, and all my contacts are on it. I'm using google docs for word processing, and I've got all my pictures on it and I've also got it tethered to a bluetooth phone for non wi-fi locations. The perfect scenario for me is to have this GPS issue improved because I'm tired of having to carry too many devices everywhere, so the wayfinder software is worth it to me to avoid the hassle of losing or getting another device stolen. I even purchased a car charger and the nokia window mount, but not the software yet. Figure that one out!! The poor sat lock, no matter what's been suggested on this forum to try to solve it, is a deal breaker for me and if Nokia can find a way to improve this issue, then I'll be a customer of wayfinder. If not, I guess I'll have to reevaluate my options.

How much is the unlock for wayfinder? It may not be worth the money. I recently bought a Magellan Maestro on sale, with very new maps of the US and Canada, for $170. It's a very nice unit, and has a good UI. It's far better than what you'll get with Wayfinder, I think, and most lower-end GPS units would be a better value unless the price of the Wayfinder unlock is <$50.

I honestly don't think that it is worth the $129 (for 3 years) to unlock Wayfinder.

Maemo maps, while maybe not as pretty, does the job well enough for me to use it regularly. I bought a Holux M1000 BT GPS receiver (under $50) and a $7 car mount from Ebay and I'm loving it.

i don't know whether wayfinder is worth it or not. i'd bought the nokia kit for more money for my 770 and it worked well enough to get me from here to there. transferred it to my 800 and it still gets me from here to there. can't deny there were and are much better stand alone products available, some quite inexpensively. anyone buying the wayfinder product (leasing really) can only hope the software and maps get better and better. personally i like the features of mm better and think it does a better job of getting me where i want to go, as long as i follow the roads it laid out while i had web access.

cracking the wayfinder program to get for free is stealing, even if the 'reasoning' used is that it's not worth paying for. why not just get maemo mapper? it's good enough and it also has the advantage of making you feel good about yourself because you got something for nothing.

I think taking all copies of wayfinder code from the programmers so it's no longer in their possession would be stealing, and much worse than cracking.

They're both pretty lame things to do, but I don't agree that cracking or piracy is the same as stealing.

But whatever, I don't think Wayfinder is worth buying, stealing, or cracking.. I just hate it when someone says something that isn't stealing is the same as stealing. Maybe there's another word we could use that sounds worse than "cracking", or "copying", but more technically correct.

Why not use maemo mapper? It doesn't do turn-by-turn navigation, does it? I'm sorry, that's a requreiemnt out here in socal traffic. Though I am very happy maemo mapper exists and applaud their efforts.

I use street signs and basketball nets for my turn by turn navigation
