Wish they had a hotfix system in place so you can just install the hotfix which fixes a certain bug. (like Microsoft...)

Just release Beta/RC builds and put them up in a unstable repository and for those who are installing, just show a BIG warning sign saying this is UNSTABLE prior to the install. Super easy. That's what they are doing internally, why not do it for the techy guys out here who are willing to also try and test their so called "beta/rc" builds.

We all know PR1.2 will also have lots of bugs and spawn many more enhancement requests. So just release it and let us help report any bugs as we are going to do it even when their "fully tested" gets released anyways.
pr1.2 has been available via sdk for long time now. just install stuff from sdk-repo and you will have pr1.2 packages.. ..or a device in a need of a reflash.

no, I don't understand why RCs arent published but have you moaners ever seen the forum nokia -link @tmo? KHRM!

so has anyone considered the possibility that upgrading pr 1.1 to qt 4.6 results in some serious issues.

To me, far more significant than what version Ari Jaaski is running is what he had to say regarding mobile OSs and the internet. He's absolutely correct that if not already, certainly soon 'mobile OS' and 'mobile internet' are dead terms. That the 'mobile internet' never really happened.

And his point that with Maemo/MeeGo Nokia has positioned themselves well for future expectations of mobile hardware and software. They know they have the OS to compete with anyone. Now it's just a matter of MeeGo and Qt getting to a tipping point in terms of market share and consumer awareness.

Now as to PR1.2...clearly, Nokia has not released RCs of PR1.2 for general testing because they want to tightly control test conditions, local versions, installed software, etc and maybe most of all, reduce the feedback noise level. IOW get truly meaningful feedback not just complaints.

For all I care they can - and should - test PR1.2 as long as they want/need to. The important thing is when it goes out OTA to thousands and thousands of users, remember most who never used a terminal in their life, it just works and nobody has their N900 bricked or loses contacts, etc. etc.

PR1.2 is not a big deal, not gonna turn my N900 into a N920 or anything. Probably actually of far more importance to developers than end users. It'll get here when it gets here.

Okay. I'm trying to understand what you said in both sentences and having a hard time deciphering both. You are saying, you can upgrade your N900 to PR 1.2 using your above mentioned method? Also, what is the "forum nokia -link" that you mention here. Also, I have no idea what KHRM is. (googled and found irrelevant stuff)

It may also be that the PR 1.2 is just that, 1.2. It is not 2.0 or 3.0 or MeeGo or whatever.

The changelog is nice and the features it mentions are certainly welcome, but expecting PR 1.2 to CHANGE the N900 into something different is in my opinion wrong and misguided.

I actually feel for Nokia, now that they have started on this path, they are kind of stuck with it.

I bet you that even the more rational and emotionally balanced posters on this forum will feel a great urge to start 352345^n+1 threads about how PR 1.2 failed and how it is not possible to understand why it took so long to release it....

It's tough...but yes I also cannot wait to benefit from this life transforming miracle called PR 1.2 :-)

I think that reactions and behavior like this is why most hardware vendors don't get this close to their user base, and (seemingly) happily defer their users via the carriers that sold the phone.

Seriously, PR1.2 will make a good device much easier to use. Isnt that we are all expecting? Ive had mine since the end of Nov. and some of the changes are very welcome. I hate waiting as much as the next guy and I think the fact that Ari kinda threw it in there that he was using a RC 1.2 was a snub to us....
